Progress!

Early Spring in South Carolina means 7" of snow one week and 99 degree temperatures on the porch the next week!

Tom bought a new chainsaw and began cutting down and trimming trees to get ready for the power pole move which Duke had scheduled for four weeks from now.

It's a good thing he did because as we were sitting on the back porch eating breakfast last Tuesday the Duke power people drove up the driveway with the new pole, four weeks early!!! We explained that there was no way they could cut off our power yet, but they decided to go ahead and set the pole anyway.

While the men were setting the new power pole, the York County inspector showed up to inspect our site and tell us many rules about what we can and can't do during the construction.

So now it's official! The house mover is scheduled to be here on March 10th. In the meantime we will lose power, water, internet connections, cable TV, propane gas and toilet facilities. March will be an interesting month.

Duke Power

Tom finally managed to get a real person on the phone at Duke (thanks, Jimmy!) and we were impressed that they sent somebody out immediately to look into moving the lines and pole in the back yard.

Duke will be able to move the pole and put the wires underground but it will take about four weeks from the time the work order goes in until they can actually move the pole. In the meantime, we are working on revising the drawings, drawing up specs for a contractor, and getting more permits!

Hopefully, the weather will improve in the next four weeks!!

House Mover

The house mover came out to inspect and approve our hole for the basement. He says we don't have to pack up anything in the house. Pictures can stay on the walls and china in the cabinets! We signed a contract and started a check list of things to do before the move.

The next step is to get Duke Power to move the power pole from our back yard to the new location. We hope they will be able to put the wires to the house underground. So far Tom has not been able to penetrate Duke's phone system to reach an actual person.

The back deck will be removed before we move the house so Tom took down the ceiling fan and light today.

When it gets a little warmer this week I'll take down all of the window boxes and bird feeders.
