A Roof but No Walls!

Tom and the carpenters have been busy and my kitchen is starting to look like a real room.

This old house had some really wide boards under the siding!

Tom removed the last wall between the old and new kitchen.

We are continuing to cook and eat in all of the mess.

The rains started and work stopped.

The rain made all of the wild roses bloom.

We're really enjoying all of the fresh air!

This is NOT my kitchen but I did buy this stove, an AGA cooker, on EBay.  Now we have to have it shipped from Texas and figure out where to put it until the kitchen is ready.  It weighs 1290 pounds.  Next  I'm looking for sinks. 

I did a little Photoshop magic to show the carpenters how the roof line will change.  

The roof will eventually be a red tin roof

Holes in My Floor!

Yesterday part of my kitchen floor was removed to make room for the new stairs to the basement.

Tom is good at tearing things out.

I don't think I sleepwalk, but it's probably a good idea to put up a barrier!

The landing for the stairs is in.

This will be my new kitchen floor.

My new kitchen floor is in, but I don't think I'll be using it anytime soon.

We have 16 new Golden Comet baby chicks today!

It's Down!

After the concrete walls were poured and the walls framed for the basement, the house-movers came back to remove all of the cribbing and steel and lower the house to its final position.  It's about two feet lower than it was yesterday!

Most of the day was spent dealing with huge steel beams, either removing them, adding them, moving them, welding them, or fitting them.  Maybe now the floors won't shake as we walk through the house!  

Reese tried to figure out what was going on as his favorite place to sit was removed.

Reese has found a new spot to sit.  

I still have to climb a ladder to get in the house but it's a much shorter climb!
