Early Monday morning we were at our branch office at McDonald's checking e-mail and then back to the farm by 8:30 to wait for the movers and take one last photo of the house.
The movers showed up at 9:30 (Daylight Savings Time!!) and quickly dug up all of the plants around the house and started knocking out the foundation and digging channels for the beams to go under the house.
The sewer line was cut, ending any possibility of staying at the farm overnight!
The house mover had planned to box the chimneys in and move the house with the fireplaces intact. We ran into a major setback when the foundations of the chimneys turned out to be unstable. The chimneys had to be torn down and the fireplaces knocked out, creating an unbelievable amount of dust throughout the house. We covered all we could with plastic, but cleaning up is going to be a nightmare!
Our poor little farmhouse looks lonesome with no plants around it, but it's almost ready to move!
The steel beams needed to move the house won't be available until late Wednesday or Thursday so it looks like the house won't actually start to move until Friday. We'll see!
Well at least I suppose you'll be getting a new fireplace out of the deal.
ReplyDeleteThis is making me feel like a terrible slacker for how long we've put off finishing the handrail to our stairs!
